Converting JPG to PNG cannot recover what JPG already discarded

It is worth being clear about what this conversion does and does not do. Going from JPG to PNG gives you a lossless file from that point forward — no further quality is lost, no matter how many times you re-save it. That is genuinely useful if you are about to edit the image repeatedly, because each JPG save would degrade it a little and PNG never will.

What it cannot do is restore detail the original JPG already threw away. JPG compression is lossy and permanent; converting the result to PNG preserves exactly what is there, artefacts and all, at a larger file size. So JPG to PNG is the right move before editing, or when you need transparency support, but it will not sharpen or clean up a JPG that is already soft.

The conversion runs on the browser canvas, so nothing is uploaded and the original is never modified.

    How it works

    1. Drop in one or more JPG images
    2. Click Convert
    3. A single file downloads directly; several arrive as a ZIP

Converting JPG to PNG gives you a lossless file to edit from, but cannot recover detail the JPG already lost. It is the right step before repeated editing or when you need PNG support. To reduce size instead, PNG to JPG goes the other way, and Compress Image shrinks a file without changing its format.

Why nothing uploads. Every operation on this page happens inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is read into memory, processed, and offered back as a download. It is never transmitted. Disconnect from the internet after this page loads and the tool keeps working.

    Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. It prevents any further quality loss from that point, but it cannot recover detail the JPG already discarded. Use it before editing an image repeatedly, so subsequent saves stay lossless.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless and stores photographs less efficiently than JPG. A larger file is the expected result — it is the cost of not losing any more quality.
Does JPG to PNG add transparency?
No. It produces a PNG with a solid background, because the source JPG had none. PNG supports transparency, but converting cannot invent it where it never existed.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes. A single file downloads directly; several come back as a ZIP.
    Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the file is never transmitted.
